Two Senova varieties have been added to the winter oats Recommended List. Balado is a conventional husked oat that yields 5% above Tardis, and a massive 9% improvement over market leader Gerald. But it has only a slight improvement in kernel content over those varieties, and nowhere near the quality of Brochan, Mascani and Dalguise. "At the moment the breeders can either increase yield without increasing quality, or improve kernel content without the yields," HGCA's Jim McVittie said.
