THE use of pig slimy -once a commodity to be dumped - has played a part in helping Aberdeenshire cereal grower Ian Davidson achieve at best, five tonnes of winter bailey in an area where 3.5 tonnes might be more the norm. His 550 acres at Mosside, Oldmeldrum, were in the country's first Nitrate Vulnerable Zone and it was this classification that led him to rethink his strategy for disposing of the muck from his 280 sow unit which also finishes everything to heavy bacon weight for Grampian Country Pork.
