Follow advice or lose vital herbicides

Much more must be done to keep pesticides out of water if growers wish to stay profitable under the EU's Water Framework Directive. That was the stark warning as industry experts launched a new national advice booklet this week. H_2O? Water ProtectionAdvice aims to help farmers retain use of key herbicides occurring in water above the legal limit for drinking. The advice to growers and agronomists goes well beyond establishing grass buffers in winter oilseed rape or bean fields (see Arable, 17 July, and FW Academy, p56).
