Alwinton was the venue for the final Northumberland League open trial of the season on Saturday. Jim Dickinson of Wooler judged the entry of 40 dogs. Over a good-sized flat course, which was gathered mainly from the right, the running was on Mule ewes. During the morning the sheep proved difficult to handle and only two dogs competed their trials. Placed fifth, Paul Turnbull's Sal was the only dog hi the prize list that competed in the morning. In the afternoon the ewes behaved better; this was whenDavid Ogilvie and Bess earned the winning score of 94 points. Apart from being a little slow to lift her sheep, Bess had excellent outfield work, concluded by a clean pen and good single. She took the title six points clear of the runners-up, Gordon Thompson and Kyle.
