The Committee for Standardization under the Council of Labour and Defence was set up 75 years ago, on 15 September 1925, as decreed by the Council of People's Commissars of the then USSR. This date marks the outset of standardization managed by the State, and the point of departure for development and implementation of All-Union Standards valid throughout the country.But elements of standardization and metrology their forms and methods can be found in ages past and gone. Russian measures were mentioned in "Russian Pravda", in letters of Russian knights. "Stamped (copper) measures" adopted under Ivan the Terrible (1533-1584) were first, though imperfect, standard measures. Standardization and metrology elements can be found in times of Peter T (Peter the Great, 1689-1725), introducing interchangeability and uniformity in the production of arms.
