Consumer questions: Consumer Protection in the Global Market-Using Standards as a Safeguard

The year 2000 COPOLCO (ISO Committee for Consumer Policy) workshop is to be held on 22 May 2000 in Kyoto, Japan, at the invitation of JISC. The theme is to be "Consumer Protection in the Global Market-Using Standards as a Safeguard", and the workshop, as customarily will be followed by the COPOLCO Plenary meeting on 23 and 24 May.The theme this year is particularly challenging and topical in view of the issues raised at the WTO Seattle meeting in 1999, that go to show how real the preoccupations about protection are in the minds of consumers internationally and how the fear of consumer concerns being swamped by the globalization process are deeply felt and dreaded.
