Local produce is at the 'heart' of award winning Staffordshire inn

Flying the flag for county and country, the Burnt Gate Inn, Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, has scooped a top prize for the best pub using local produce in its restaurant. The regional tourist board, Visit Heart of England, has hosted its own foodand drink awards to celebrate the very best of pubs, restaurants and tea shops who place a heavy emphasis on sourcing their food supplies locally and on serving menus that reflect the seasons and the culinary flavour of the area. Winner of the best pub using local produce category was Marie Stevens, proprietor of the Burnt Gate Inn, situated in the village of Anslow, a mile outside Burton-upon-Trent. Having owned the pub for the last eight years, Mrs Stevens has gone from running the kitchen single handedly to employing two full-time chefs and 26 members of staff.
