Setting up and launching an accreditation service and a national certification body is one of the major challenges facing developing countries in their efforts to compete in the global market. Not only is there a considerable financial effort to be made, but a deliberate effort of will to set up a complete scheme that functions over the range of areas, and a development of skills and competence among the staff. But it can be done - and done speedily and successfully - as the case history in Pakistan illustrates.
