Singapore's economy thrives on global trade. This is underscored by the government's commitment to free and open international trade. As the national standards body, SPRING Singapore (Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board) adopts a strategic approach in managing the national standardization programme. Standardization is a means to help manufacturers and traders increase market access for products and services, improve productivity and quality, ensure safety and health and protect the environment. Where feasible, Singapore standards are aligned with International Standards to facilitate greater market access for Singapore's manufactured goods and exports. The alignment strategy supports Singapore's open trade policy and eliminates instances of standards becoming technical barriers to trade.
