Learning the ABC's of conformity assessment

Some 80 participants from 40 countries attended the joint ISO Committee on conformity assessment and ISO Committee for developing country matters workshop on product and management system certification on 4 November 2003 in Geneva, Switzerland. It provided a platform to strengthen understanding of the conformity assessment procedures available for developing countries and countries in transition in order to help them fulfill local and global market objectives. Mr. Mario O. Wittner, Chair of ISO's Committee on conformity assessment and Ms. Maureen Mutasa, Chair of ISO's Committee for developing country matters, who served as Chairs for the event, helped to stimulate the lively exchange of views among workshop attendees. Through a series of presentations by experts engaged in, or concerned with conformity assessment, participants came away with an improved understanding of the relative need, types and possible service delivery options for certification activities.
