Over the past 10 years Geoff and Janet Carrington have built a thriving dairy and tourism business on their 200-acre Derbyshire farm. Right from the point when they started farming on their own account just 10 years ago, Derbyshire farmers Geoff and Janet Carrington recognised that while dairying would be their core business, they also needed to draw income from the local tourism industry. Their entry into farming was not without its problems. Their arrival at Basset Wood Farm, Tissington, was something of a surprise for their initial application for the farm tenancy had been turned down - one of several tenancy applications tliey had made around that period. The tenancy had been offered and accepted by another applicant who had then been unable toproceed.
