The industry was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of legendary pipeliner and industry stalwart Jim McDonald on 27 December 2016. Involved in the oil and gas industry for over 40 years, Jim began his career in the industry mopping floors on Marlin,the third platform in the Bass Strait, in 1969. Working both in Australia and internationally, some of Jim's achievements in the industry include the role of foundation CEO and Managing Director of the Australian Pipelines Trust (now APA Group), President of the then Australian Pipeline Industry Association (now APGA) and director of companies involved in the industry including being Chairman of Intelligas. Jim was also Chairman of the Energy Pipelines CRC from 2009 to 2013, and was instrumental in the establishment and operations of the company. He was also a recipient of an APGA Honorary Life Membership and Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Pipeline Industry award.
