At the Top of His Game: Farmer's creativity earns multiple wins in our 'I Built the Best' contest

The full-scale, working garden tractor that Bob Wahlquist built as a high school student was just a preview of what lay ahead. Now, he keeps the family's equipment running and fabricates machines that no one else has had the foresight to build. He does this while farming near Baldwin, Wis., with brothers Bill and Jim. The trio raise corn, soybeans and alfalfa and do custom forage chopping, silo filling and baling. Wahlquist's gift for design and his talent with a welder and torch propelled him to victory in the technology, sprayer and miscellaneous categories of FARM JOURNAL'S "I Built the Best" contest. Although a number of farmers have scored multiple victories in the contest, the Wisconsin farmer is the first to win three categories in one year.He received $500 for each category win.
