Growth mechanism of Yba_2Cu_3O_(7-#delta#) thin films and precipitates on planar and vicinal SrTiO_3 substrates

Effects of the vicinal angle, film thickness, andtemperature on the growth modes, microstructures, andelectrical properties of Yba_2Cu_3O_(7-#delta#) on SrTiO_3were studied. Island growth transition between the initialnucleation and the later coalescence stages was observed withfilm thickness on a planar SrTiO_3, while no islands wereobserved at the later stage due to the step-flow mode. As thegrowth temperature increased, a-axis precipitates weretransformed to c-axis precipitates (islands), while no islandsformed on vicinal SrTiO_3. The supercurrent criticaltemperature was strongly related to the substrate vicinal angledue to the step-flow mode.
