Portugal/Turkey: Portuguese cement giant Cimpor has announced plans to build a new factory worth Euro73.4m in Ankara Hasanoglan. "We plan to lay the foundation for the factory in Ankara Hasanoglan in summer 2007 and begin using the facilities by the year 2009," said Jorge Salavessa-Moura, Deputy Chief of Cimpor Group and Yibitas Lafarge Board of Director. As one of the biggest Portuguese cement companies, active in four continents and 11 countries, Cimpor landed on the Turkish consciousness after buying Yibitas Lafarge. Yibitas Lafarge has 760 employees, three cement factories, three grinding and packing facilities and 12 ready-mixed concrete facilities. "We are targeting a growth in Turkey like the other places of the world," stated Moura. With worldwide facilities carrying a 28Mt production capacity, Cimpor now aims to reach a 40Mt capacity through organic growth and company purchases by 2011.
