The U.S. Grain Standards Act dates back nearly a century, but its purpose today is largely the same as when Congress first passed it in 1916. The act sets grain quality standards to: Facilitate the exchange of information between buyers and sellers. Enable buyers to determine end-product yield and quality as well as storability, without having to perform a visual inspection personally. Facilitate improvements in marketing chains resulting in fungible and divisible product streams.
