The Ethanol Opportunity: IOWA COOPERATIVE HOPES TO BECOME GO-BETWEEN BETWEEN FARMERS AND AREA PLANTS

Not every grain handler is becoming an ethanol manufacturer, but some of those that aren 't still see some opportunities in marketing grain to ethanol producers. Prairie Land Cooperative, Hubbard, IA (641-864-2266), has spent the past several years gearing up to serve this market, even as plant after plant has been springing up around central Iowa. Rick Vaughan has been general manager at the 1,310-member cooperative, which operates eight elevators with a combined 16.6 million bushels of storage, since 1995.
