CRP Reform: POTENTIAL CROP SHORTAGES MAKE IT MORE URGENT TO RELEASE ACRES FOR PLANTING

The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) spearheaded a May 10 letter to Congress signed by 72 agriculture-related organizationssayingthatpotentialcropshort-falls this year make it urgent to reform the U.S. Department of Agricultures (USDA) Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). Specifically, the letter told members of the House and Senate agriculture committees that farmers should be allowed to remove acreage from the CRP without penalty, as long as it can be farmed in an environmentally sustainable way.
