Spill Prevention Regulations EPA MAY SOON ADDRESS QUESTIONS OVER ANIMAL AND VEGETABLE OIL STORAGE

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) may be preparing to issue new proposed rules in 2007 under its Spill Prevention, Control and Countermea-sure (SPCC) regulations addressing animal fats and vegetable oils commonly used in feed milling, theNational Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) reported early in January. The EPA on Dec. 12, 2006, issued final rules amending its SPCC program. The biggest change was to allow facilities with an above-ground oil storage capacity of 10,000 gallons or lessto self-certify their SPCC plans rather than requiring a professional engineer to do it.
