Lafarge is to use its MaxCem blended slag cement to help repair the Tuttle Creek Dam on the Big Blue River near Manhattan, Kansas. Lafarge is working with Treviicos Corporation, an internationally-known geotechnical and foundation contractor, to help improve the dam so that it can withstand a magnitude 6.6 earthquake. Based on test results and an inspection of Lafarge's local state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution capabilities, it was determined that Lafarge MaxCem would be the most reliable solution for this dam safety-assurance project, the largest ever undertaken by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
