Form-Fitting/Tolerance-Tolerant Blind Rivets & Lock Bolts

A discussion of the properties and advantages resulting from simulations and testing performed on joints made with form-fitting, tolerance-tolerant blind rivets and lock bolts. The load carrying capability of a riveted joint depends on the diameter of the rivet, the sheet thickness, the rivet materials and the material(s) of the sheets and whether the joint is force-fit, form-fit or both. Generally, with the exception of rivets with interference-fit hole preparation, blind rivet joints are force-fit. This is also borne out by the results of recent research projects, as seen in Figure l.
