Spontaneous closure of full-thickness macular hole in type 2 idiopathic macular telangiectasia.

Idiopathic macular telangiectasia type 2 (IMT2) is a condition characterized by low-grade chronic nutritional deprivation of retinal cells resulting in slowly progressive foveal atrophy and visual loss; lamellar macular holes may occur occasionally [1]. Full-thickness macular holes (FTMH) are uncommon in type 2 idiopathic macular telangiectasia (IMT2), and are generally associated with poor visual prognosis due to underlying neurosensory degeneration [2-5]. This report describes spontaneous closure of an FTMH secondary to IMT2 with concomitant improvement in vision.
