Demand Creates Supply: With demand firming, producer decisions will determine the medium-term fertilizer market outlook

DURING its Annual Conference in South Africa in June, the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) released its latest forecasts for fertilizer supply and demand in the medium term. After a minor contraction in 2005/06, world fertilizer demand is expected to increase steadily over the coming five years. Projections point to stronger growth for potash and phosphate than for nitrogen, due to more balanced fertilization and greater nitrogen use efficiency, particularly in China and India.
