What is your name and where are you from? John Pottle, Director of the Royal Institute of Navigation What was your first job and did it influence your overall career? I joined British Telecom in London as a Communications Engineering graduate. It was a most unsuitable first job! I managed a team of 25 spirited and characterful engineers at Upper Holloway exchange in North London. I built respect by being fair and straightforward. It influenced my career as left after 18 months for a more technical role - managing a fleet of five transportable satellite earth stations.
