Glass Tempering requires accurate temperature monitoring to provide the necessary safety qualities. In addition to this quality architectural glass requires uniform stress to prevent optical distortions that can create customer dissatisfaction. Many glass tempering ovens are fitted with infrared temperature sensors that detect the glass surface temperature at two or three points as the glass exits the oven. These single-spot devices measure a stripe along the glass but do nothing to tell the temperature distribution across the glass surface.
