2002 Olympic Winter Games Cauldron Unveiled

One of the most recognized symbols of the Olympic Winter Games, the Olympic Cauldron, has been unveiled at Rice-Eccles Olympic Stadium. The 117-foot structure is made of steel and glass and weighs 40,000 pounds.The cauldron design centers on the Olympic Flame and echoes the Salt Lake 2002 theme "Light the Fire Within." The steel structure rises to 130 feet, including the base, and is surrounded by triangular-shaped bluish glass that represents ice. The cauldron is capped by a clear bowl shape the displays the fire within.
