Strategy for producers: Thailand's approach to the distribution of major fruits

THE THAI CABINET, during a meeting in March 2004, approved a strategy for keeping pineapple production and exports in equilibrium. The strategy is expected to increase Thai pineapple exports, to reach a stated target of 40bn baht a year by 2012. The strategy consists of four measures, proposed by Thailand's Ministry of Industry. The first measure, which involves raw materials, seeks to introduce a zoning system, to encourage pineapple growers to form groups, to enhance the efficiency of pineapple production, and to reduce production costs.
