Fibre for breeding sows and gilts

There is growing evidence from research projects around the world that the inclusion of fibre in the sow diet - especially in gestation - may lead to an increased number of pigs born alive and increased feed intake during lactation. The inclusion level of fibre is a topical point for discussion in both thenutr ition of humans and breeding sows. Increasing evidence in human nutrition indicates that consumption of fibre may reduce the risk of coloncancer and may lower cholesterol levels in some situations. In the case of breeding sows there is increasing information from research prqjectsaround the world that the inclusion of fibre in the diet - especially in gestation - may lead to an increased number of pigs born alive andincreased feed intake during lactation.
