CONTROLLING FEED WASTAGE is one of the most important daily tasks of the poultry farmer. With feed the highest single cost in poultry keeping, any wastage occurring demands attention, because it increases the cost of keeping poultry. The cost of feedis established on nutritional value, so it is unwise to reduce the nutritional content to save on costs. A bird's performance will be the first thing to suffer, and there is no gain to either party. There may be, however, ways to reduce feed costs by examining areas where feed may be lost, such as at the feeders. These may have the greatest potential for feed wastage, in addition to other management areas.
