Smallholder success

Bob Hill and Ralph Roothaert write of ClAT's attempts to grow forage with farmers in Northern Vietnam. It isn't often, these days, that agricultural science comes up with an instant winner; a project that quickly achieves its objectives, radically affecting a farming community. Such a rare success story is happening in the province of Tuyen Quang, in northern Vietnam. It involves a scientific venture called the Forages for Smallholders Project, administered by the Colombia-based Centra Internacionalde Agricultura Tropical (CIAT), and funded by the Asian Development Bank.
