IRRIGATION IS PROVISION ot water by man to earth and crops to complement or supplement rain water percolating through the soil, surface water from natural flooding and ground water sources that rise up the soil profile by capillarity. Irrigation is primarily used to maintain and boost growing crops in arid and semi-arid regions and areas with a pronounced dry season. It may also be used through sprinklers, misters and foggers to protect tender foliage and flowers like fruit blossom from frost and low temperature damage and in greenhouses to maintain humidity.
