The US natural gas market's year-end plunge is a sign that near-month futures may have trouble sustaining a $4 handle unless the current weather pattern changes. The February contract nosedived by 28.9c on Thursday to settle at $3.536/MMBtu on Friday, even though the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported an above-normal storage draw in the week before the Christmas holiday.
