Social Networking Policy a Necessity to Protect the Practice

As of June 2010, Linkedln had more than 50 million users worldwide and Facebook had over 400 million users worldwide. The fastest growing demographic of Facebook users are age 35 and older. Social networking is invading the workplace and is becoming aserious employment practices issue for employers. Despite the dramatic increase in the use of social networking websites, studies indicate that only 26% of employers have a policy regarding social networking. Employees may be engaging in social networking on company time and probably on company computers. Employees could post messages which reflect poorly on the practice or potentially lead to significant liability.
