Kuwait denies Gulf exporters to ditch dollar

Dubai-Kuwaiti Oil Minister Sheikh Ahmed al-Abdullah al-Sabah denied October 6 that Gulf Arab oil exporters were planning to abandon the US dollar as the main petroleum currency. His remarks followed a report in the British newspaper The Independent that plans were under way by Middle Eastern oil producers to switch from the greenback by 2018. The Kuwaiti minister denied that Gulf Arab oil producers, which include OPEC kingpin Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar, were planning to price "this strategic commodity" in a currency other than the US dollar.
