REHAU has long supported the British Fenestration Ratings Council (BFRC) window energy rating (WER) scheme as a marketing tool for installers and I genuinely think it is a nice idea for end users in helping them to visualise the relative differences in window thermal performance. However, what is not a good idea, in my opinion, is using the scheme to make a technically sound assessment for the overall energy performance of a building. Yet, this is exactly what is being proposed in the new Building Regulations which would see WER ratings as the only criteria for demonstrating Part L compliance in replacement windows.
