Research within Colombia has some Canadian links

University of Guelph among international research institutions contacted in spirit of co-operation In 1991, the University of Bogota Jorge Tadeo Lozano (UJTL) began the building of the Horticulture Research Centre with financial and technical help from the University of Leuven (Belgium). The mission of the UJTL is to continue with the cultural and scientific endeavour initiated by the Colombian Botanical Expedition during the years 1782-1792 by the Spanish. The goal of that Expedition was to write agreat Natural History and search out new economic opportunities in the colonies. The building of the Research Centre in part fulfils that mission.
