Micronutrient nutrition in bedding plants: maintaining proper pH balance of growing media is important

Bedding plant growers are well aware of the importance of macronutrients (major elements) such as nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and sulfur in plant growth. They know plants need these elements in high concentrations to grow andmaintain growth properly. In addition, growers must manage root media pH and electrical conductivity while providing sufficient levels of all the essential macro and micro elements. The micro or trace elements include: boron (B), Copper (Cu), iron (Fe),manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), and zinc (Zn). Although these micronutrients are equally important and essential for plant growth and development, they are quite often overlooked. Plants need these elements at lower levels than the macronutrients.
