Brent’s March futures contract, the front-month starting next week, sniffed $80 per barrel on Thursday in a sign of its potential in the new year and proof of the muscular price gains made in the second year of the pandemic. On Thursday, February Brent in ICE Futures expired at $79.32/bbl, up 9c from the previous day's close. The soon-to-be front-month March contract closed at $79.53/bbl, a gain of 32c, after touching $80.02/bbl — all in thin trading volumes.
