When 750 winegrape growers from San Joaquin and Sacramento Counties formed the Lodi-Woodbridge Winegrape Commission a decade ago they elected to have their commission double as a marketing group and an IPM promotion agency. The growers routinely lookfor ways to replace pesticides with cultivation. When materials are used, they select the least toxic alternative. And weather models and scouting are used to reduce applications to a minimum.
