Helping to boost investment in B.C. horticulture research

From her office next to the University of British Columbia greenhouse, Christia Roberts manages her many tasks with an assortment of coloured pens, and her cat, Harry, by her side. Roberts juggles two important roles as both UBC's greenhouse manager and Canada's only designated horticulture advisor for the National Research Council's (NRC) Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP). She has an interesting system for handling her double-duty job. "I have a blue pen and a red pen," she explains with a laugh. "Blue is a UBC colour and red is for Canada. And in my daybook, I write NRC activities with my red pen and UBC activities with my blue pen. And I make an effort to be fair to both organizations."
