Checking for cyclamen mites

During the late summer and early fall of 1997, there were a number of reports of damage by cyclamen or broad mites in various greenhouse crops. Crops affected included kalanchoe, exacum, snapdragon, field grown hydrangea and clerodendrum. However, many other crops are potential hosts, including cyclamen, chrysanthemum, ger-bera, begonia, impatiens, geranium, petunia and African violet. Both the cyclamen mite and broad mite belong to a group of mites called tarsonemids, and while they are quite different species, for all practical purposes they can be treated in the same way.
