Poinsettia sales survey results: generally speaking, a good season

Most growers and retailers encouraged by '05 sales and some regions even enjoyed price increases. Greenhouse and garden centre operators across the country, for the most part, report that poinsettia sales were about the same or a little higher this past Christmas season compared to the previous year. And where sales were off the mark, there seems to have been special circumstances in those regions. Paul and Kurt Reeves' Plant World Garden Centre in Toronto, for example, had to compete with a major poinsettia sale at a nearby big box store. The larger retailer, Paul Reeves reports, was selling 6" plants for 2.97 dollar each. "We can't afford to sell 6" poinsettias for 2.97 dollar."
