Peter Burgess, IPM co-ordinator for Nova Scotia's Agricultural Development Institute Ltd., says pesticides are an important tool in any Integrated Pest Management program. "But," he noted, "they are there as a last resort." Burgess touched on a variety of themes during his presentation to the semi-annual meeting of Greenhouse Nova Scotia. Growers have to get to the source of the problem. "It is a closed system. How did the pests get in there?" And early intervention is important. "Control them before they become a problem."
