The time-consuming manual task of pollinating greenhouse tomato plants may be a thing of the past. Technicians at Quebec's La Pocatiere Agricultural Technology Institute (ITA) have perfected an automatic pollination system specifically designed for greenhouse tomato production. They claim the device should help producers substantially reduce the expense of monotonous, labour-intensive conventional pollination methods. "We wanted to test the concept. Now that we've done so, we're convinced that it will produce results In fact, we've had several expressions of interest from greenhouse growers," Herve Beinier, one of the device's inventors, told Gieenhouse Canada magazine in a telephone interview.
