Export, import fees to be levied by federal government this year: Cost recovery plan feestructure to be determined

Growers will soon be paying export and import fees as part of the federal government's attempt to trim its budget and recoup some inspection costs. The budget of the Food Production and Inspection Branch of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has been reduced by 70 million dollar over the next three years. As part of the cost recovery program growers will now pay fees for inspection of their product before it can be shipped to the United States. Growers will also pay for import permits and import inspection of shipments from the United States.
