Diagnostic usefulness of a nested polymerase chain reaction assay for detecting Sarcoptes scabiei DNA in skin scrapings from clinically suspected scabies.

Madam, The most commonly used method for the definitive diagnosis of scabies is the identification of Sarcoptes scabiei using dermoscopic or microscopic examination; however, the diagnostic sensitivities of these examination methods are low. Although a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based method for detecting S. scabiei DNA in skin scrapings has been reported, it is uncertain whether this method has diagnostic value. Here we report nested PCR methods that are useful for the diagnosis of clinically suspected scabies.
