Last month my poinsettia comments revolved around pinching and environmental management strategies immediately after pinching. My production comments this month deal with growing on through September. The breaks are hopefully, now developing nicely after the pinch and are about 2-5 cm long depending on pinching date and container size on the plant. It is important that some cultivars not be spaced too soon after pinching to help achieve the "V" shape angle of the shoots to the main stem so breakage will not be a problem at shipping. However don't delay too long as the shading increases the far red to red light ratio resulting in increased lower internode stretching. Some growers are guilty of spacing late.
