Lygus bugs in vegetable greenhouses in British Columbia — pest management and control

Until recently, Lygus bugs in Hi greenhouses in B.C. were rare, and very minor pests. Occurrences in greenhouses were assumed to be the species Lygus lineolaris, and were treated with an insecticide. This disrupted any use of biological controls in the greenhouse. Growers either replaced the biological controls that were lost to the pesticide treatment, or remained on a pesticide-based control program. A number of factors have combined in recent years to increase the importance of Lygus bugs on greenhouse crops.
