The world changed dramatically for grower/retailers Don and Anna Bartlett the morning of Jan. 19 of 2005. The Bartletts own Don and Anna's Greenhouses and Garden Centre, located just outside of Keremeos in south central British Columbia. They're situated along the picturesque Similkameen River. At 7:30 that Wednesday morning, Anna was enjoying a coffee when she received a phone call from a neighbour alerting her to problems in the river. The river ice was rising at an alarming rate.
