Effective use of corrosion inhibitors is the "ounce of prevention" required to avoid the costly "pound of cure". The control of corrosion is one of the main focus points of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) and of the Associationof Water Technologies (AWT), as it is estimated that the associated cost in the U.S. alone is 276 billion dollar per year. Although a formal estimate has not been researched for Canada, anyone responsible for waterbearing systems knows the effects of corrosion through maintenance costs and equipment failure.
